O PAPEL DO ESTADO NA PESQUISA AGRÍCOLA NO BRASIL

Resumo

Constata-se uma crescente redução dos gastos públicos com pesquisa agropecuária, a despeito do reconhecidamente elevado retorno que esse tipo de investimento tem propiciado em diversos países, entre os quais o Brasil. Diante desta situação, algumas questões são levantadas e discutidas à luz da teoria existente e de uma análise empírica do caso brasileiro. Buscando respostas para essas questões, são apresentados novos "insights" sobre o papel da pesquisa agropecuária no Brasil.

THE ROLE OF THE STATE IN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH IN BRAZIL
ABSTRACT
An increasing reduction in public expenditures in agricultural research is evident, in spite of the acknowledged high return which this type of investiment has provided in many countries, among them Brazil. In view of this situation, some questions are raised and discussed in light of existing theory and of an empirical analysis of the Brazilian case. Looking for answers for these questions, new insights are cast upon the role of agricultural research in Brazil.
