AGROPECUÁRIA BRASILEIRA E AS MUDANÇAS CLIMÁTICAS GLOBAIS: CARACTERIZAÇÃO DO PROBLEMA, OPORTUNIDADES E DESAFIOS

Resumo

Recentes estudos mostram a ocorrência de um aumento na concentração de dióxido de carbono, metano, monóxido de carbono, óxido nitroso, óxidos de nitrogênio e ozônio na atmosfera. A esse acréscimo de gases, originados por fontes antrópicas, atribui-se a responsabilidade pelo aquecimento adicional da superfície terrestre (efeito estufa de origem antrópico). Este artigo aborda o problema da mudança do clima que afeta o setor agropecuário, e da contribuição da agricultura ao efeito estufa, identificando as opções de mitigação das emissões causadas por atividades agrícolas e as oportunidades associadas a elas. Desafios para a pesquisa e desenvolvimento são descritos, considerando o atual estado da arte sobre o tema no País.

BRAZILIAN AGRICULTURE AND THE GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE: CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PROBLEM, OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
ABSTRACT
Recent studies have shown an increase of the concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, nitrogen oxides and ozone in the atmosphere. To this increment of gases, originated by anthropogenic sources, it iassigned the responsibility for the additional warming of the earth surface (greenhouse gas effect). This paper deals with the problematic concerned with the climate change and its impact on agricultural sector and also with the contribution of the agricultural activities to the increase of greenhouse gases, identifying the options for mitigation as well as the opportunities related to them. Challenges for the research and development are pointed out.
