AGRICULTURA FAMILIAR E PREVIDÊNCIA SOCIAL: ENVELHECENDO NA POBREZA?

Resumo

O propósito deste estudo é analisar empiricamente como a previdência social rural influenciou a dinâmica da agricultura familiar no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, tendo como base uma pesquisa realizada entre 2003 e 2004, havendo sido aplicados questionários estruturados em 238 estabelecimentos rurais. Os resultados indicaram a importância dessa política pública para a reprodução social das famílias rurais, particularmente entre os pequenos proprietários. A hipótese que aponta o papel da previdência no financiamento indireto da agricultura foi igualmente confirmada, especialmente naquelas regiões onde as famílias contam com reduzidas oportunidades de emprego e renda.

FAMILY FARMING AND SOCIAL SECURITY: GROWING OLD IN POVERTY?

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyse empirical data collected in context of different communities in order to answer how the social security affects the dynamics of family farming in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The built database of the research was based on 238 questionnaires applied in rural properties in the years 2003 and 2004. The main results point toward a confirmation of the hypothesis on the importance of social security for the maintenance of the material conditions required to the social reproduction among rural families, especially among small farmers. The hypothesis of the importance of the social security as an indirect financing source for the agriculture in family farms has been also confirmed, specially in those regions where economic opportunities to the rural population are limited.
